Abstract
Standardized residency training and continuing medical education constitute key components of medical education, aiming to cultivate clinicians with solid knowledge, skills, and competencies in both medicine and pharmacy. In China,an imbalance favoring medicine over pharmacy remains prominent in clinician training, and the systematic development and assessment of pharmaceutical competencies remain insufficient. This study conducted semi-structured interviews with 33 residents and clinicians and, guided by a competency-based framework, proposed a conceptual structure of pharmacy competency. The framework encompasses five core dimensions:pharmaceutical theoretical knowledge, medication monitoring ability, medication guidance ability, collaboration with pharmacists, and autonomous learning capacity.A questionnaire was subsequently developed and administered to 66 residents and clinicians to assess the current status of their pharmacy competency. The results revealed significant shortcomings in theoretical pharmaceutical knowledge, interprofessional collaboration with pharmacists, and self-directed learning. These findings highlight the need to enhance the training system and strengthen targeted pharmaceutical competencies.Incorporating pharmacy competency into the competency-based training system for clinicians is essential to improving their pharmaceutical knowledge base, ensuring rational drug use, enhancing the overall quality of healthcare services, and meeting the growing societal demand for high-quality medical care.
